Aleksei Bitskoff

Born in Estonia, Aleksei loved to draw as a child and doodled all over his school books. Although he originally intended to become a teacher, his extensive travels brought him back to art. Aleksei studied illustration in London at LCC and Camberwell, where he received his masters degree. Influences on his quirky, humorous illustrations include Tove Jansson and Russian animators. Alison Jay

Alison Jay has a first-class degree in illustration from the London College of Printing. She worked in animation before moving on to children's illustration, for which she works in quick-drying oil paint. She is well known for her children's books and her Welcome to the Zoo was selected as one of New York's Bank Street's best books of the year in 2009. William and the Night Train was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal and won the Transworld Children's Book Award.

Andy Stanton

Andy Stanton has written eight books about Mr Gum, along with further successful fiction and picture book titles. He was overall winner of the Red House Children's Book Award for You're a Bad Man, Mr Gum! and won the inaugural Roald Dahl Funny Prize for Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear. He has twice won the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Book With Pictures, and been shortlisted for a host of other awards.
