Gillian Shields

Gillian's love of books led her to read English at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. After university she studied acting in London. She then taught in a drama school for several years. She recently taught English and Drama before becoming a full-time writer.

James Weston Lewis

Born in Bath, James moved to Oxfordshire when he was 5 where he grew up in a small village. He did an Art Foundation degree at Oxford Brookes University and then moved to Bristol to study Illustration at the University of the West of England, where he specialised in Print. James now lives in Lewisham in South London, and works as an Illustrator and Printmaker.

Jim Field

Jim Field is a lead-driven, pencil-pushing, 25-frames-per-second Led Zeppelin fan. He is also a hugely talented illustrator and animation director. His first picture book Cats Ahoy! won the Booktrust Roald Dahl Funny Prize and was nominated for the Kate Greenaway award. He has since illustrated a string of bestselling, multi-award-winning children's books, including Oi Frog! and The Lion Inside, as well as young fiction series Rabbit and Bear.

Jimmy Fallon

John Hegley

John Hegley is a popular English performance poet, comedian, musician and songwriter. He began his performing career at London's Comedy Store in 1980. His television appearances include Wogan and Never Mind the Buzzcocks and he frequently performs live and is a regular at the Edinburgh Festival.

Kate McLelland

Kate McLelland grew up in the North East of England and now lives in Edinbrugh. She has a BA Hons in Theatre Design and an MFA in Illustration with Distinction from Edinburgh College of Art. Soot was a piece for her final degree show and was highly commended for the Macmillan Prize for Illustration. Kate is a keen printmaker and has been commissioned by several magazines.

Kate Willis-Crowley

Kate grew up in Hastings, spending much of her childhood on the beach or playing on the rocks around Hastings Castle. She decided she wanted to be a children's author and illustrator at the age of eight, following her parents' advice to always carry a sketchbook wherever she went. Kate studied fine art at Reading University and then went to the Royal College of Art, where she specialised in children's book illustration. Kate now lives in Ramsgate, where she spends many happy hours beachcombing with her kids.

Kaye Umansky

Kaye Umansky is a very successful writer for children, with her books ranging from picture books to novels. Her first novel, Pongwiffy, shot straight onto the bestseller list on publication.
