Kristina Stephenson

Kristina Stephenson studied costume and set design, and had a successful career in theatre and children's television, before turning her hand to writing and illustrating picture books when she had her children. She was inspired to create the much-loved Sir Charlie Stinkysocks by her own son Charlie (who doesn't have stinky socks!).

L. Frank Baum

Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919) was best known for his children's books, particularly The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels, numbering fourteen books in total. He also wrote many novels, short stories and poems. The 1939 adaptation of Baum's first Oz book has become one of the best loved films in cinema history. L. Frank Baum was born in Chittenango, New York, and died in Hollywood, California.

Laura Hambleton

Laura's lifelong passion for children's books began even before she graduated from Norwich School of Art in 2000 with a 1st class honours in Visual Studies. Her major project book was published following graduation and went on to win a prestigious V&A Illustration Award in 2002. Laura was also longlisted for the Booktrust Big Picture Best New Illustrator award 2008. Laura has continuously worked for a variety of children's publishers in London as Designer and Art Director whilst also writing and illustrating over 20 published works. Laura is head over heels in love with children's books and shares her enthusiasm with her son, and with lots of other children by running workshops for in schools and activity centres such as The Roald Dahl Centre.

Lauren Child

Lauren Child MBE is a multi-award-winning author and current Children's Laureate, whose books are known and loved the world over. She is the creator of many much-loved characters, including Charlie and Lola, Clarice Bean and Ruby Redfort. Since her first book was published in 1999, Lauren has sold over six million books in 19 languages worldwide. Her many awards include the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal for I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato, the Nestle Gold Book Award for That Pesky Rat and the Nestle Bronze Book Award for Beware of the Storybook Wolves. Lauren loves designing and making things and finds it exciting to see her drawings turned into objects. Other favourite things include the cinema, TV matinees, small Italian cars, handbags, cardigans, travelling and being picked up from the airport.

Layn Marlow

Layn Marlow gained a first class degree in Illustration from Southampton Solent University, and has been writing and illustrating picture books ever since. Layn's titles have sold over a million copies worldwide and been translated into more than 20 different languages. A Very Strange Creature was shortlisted for the Red House Book Award and Hurry Up and Slow Down won the Never Too Young Coventry Inspirations Book Award in 2010. Layn lives in Hampshire with her family.

Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) was the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, a mathematics tutor at Christ Church College, Oxford, and author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.

Lou Carter

Louise Forshaw

Louise was born in 1987 - most likely with a pencil in her hand! Her passion for drawing started at around 4 years old. Nothing was safe from her coloured pencils! She spent most of her childhood watching cartoons and drawing comics to give to her favourite teachers. She went on to graduate from Newcastle College in 2008 with a BA Hons in Illustration and Animation. Louise works from home in a small studio (and sometimes from the sofa) being supervised by three noisy and very naughty Jack Russell Terriers.

Maddie Frost

Maddie Frost's first picture book, Once Upon a Zzzz, publishes in the United States in 2017. Her wonderfully atmospheric artwork is created with watercolour and pastels then digitally scanned for a collage effect. She lives with her husband and their dog in Boston, USA.
