Aleksei Bitskoff

Born in Estonia, Aleksei loved to draw as a child and doodled all over his school books. Although he originally intended to become a teacher, his extensive travels brought him back to art. Aleksei studied illustration in London at LCC and Camberwell, where he received his masters degree. Influences on his quirky, humorous illustrations include Tove Jansson and Russian animators. He lives in London with his wife and son.

Clive Gifford

Clive Gifford is the author of more than 150 children's books including Eye Benders, winner of the Royal Society Young People's Book Prize, Royal Society-nominated Out of This World and Cool Technology which won the School Library Association Information Book Award. He has travelled through 70 countries, run a computer games company and taken part in all manner of sports from parachuting and gliding to Ultimate Frisbee. Liss Norton

Liss Norton lives in a small village in rural West Sussex. She has an enormous garden where she grows organic fruit and veg and lots of flowers, and where she and her husband wage war on slugs! When Liss moved to her house, the garden had been badly neglected and she and her husband are gradually reviving it. They've had tons of concrete removed and have planted a small orchard, created raised vegetable beds and grown hundreds - or possibly thousands - of plants from seed. Their next project is to create a pond.Liss is the author of thirty-one books for children of all ages, and she's just been commissioned to write her thirty-second. She used to write short stories for adults and won lots of prizes in writing competitions, including £1,000 which she spent on a family holiday in California. She regularly visits schools to talk about her work and to encourage budding young writers. (She used to be a primary school teacher, and loves meeting children.)Liss's favourite book is 'Marigold in Godmother's House' by Joyce Lankester Brisley, a magical story about a girl who goes to stay with her fairy godmother. It was first published years ago before Liss was born, but she discovered it at her local library when she was a girl and borrowed it over and over again. She was delighted when it was re-published a few years ago and bought a copy straightaway.Liss works in the sunroom of her house. It has windows all around which look out over her garden. She thinks being an author is the best job in the world because she has so many adventures while sitting at her desk!

Louise Spilsbury

Louise Spilsbury is a prolific children's book author. She has written titles on almost every subject, from science and geography through to world affairs, social issues, art, history, and literacy. Louise is married to the author Richard Spilsbury and has two children. She lives and works in Devon.

Mike Gordon

Mike Gordon is an ever-popular and award-winning cartoonist. He has produced over 500 cards for Hallmark and over 300 picture books for various publishers. His talent has been rewarded with numerous awards inlcuding Berol cartoonist of the year (1988) and runner up for the Trento Fra realto e Follia (1990). He was also nominated for the Silver Quill Award (Germany, 1991) and for the Book and Magazine Illustrator of the Year by the National Cartoonists Society (1995).
