I thoroughly enjoyed it as it reminded me of a modern day version of the early books on birds that I obsessed over as a kid. It's concise with some good nuggets of information. And I loved the art... I think that it will not fail to ignite young imaginations as it would have done if I were a kid reading it.
My Book of Birds by Geraldo Valerio is a soaring example [of beautiful graphic design], elegantly laid out, offering glorious stylised images of birds from mallards and puffins to eagles...and, in brief captions, some magical facts.
A beautiful non-fiction picture book. Geraldo Valerio uses a collage style of artwork to produce vibrant and interesting illustrations, with just enough detail to make the birds instantly recognisable. Sparse use of text makes it an easy read, and this is a fantastic one to pique the curiosity of young readers.
This book would appeal equally to the fact-hungry child and those drawn more to visual content. This book is brilliant for demonstrating that art and facts can be combined to produce something truly beautiful to look at.
