Jerry Spinelli started out wanting to be a cowboy. Luckily for young readers, he later decided to become a writer, even though he's still not sure he can call himself one (he does other things too, like picking berries and skipping stones).
Carla Spradbery

After working with teenagers for more than a decade, Carla decided to start writing for and about them. Having had a lifelong obsession with dark literature, it only seemed natural to write stories that would thrill, scare and maybe make her readers think twice about reading alone in the dark. Carla lives in Hampshire with her husband and two children. She still enjoys working with teenagers, although she finds it harder and harder to understand why the music they like has to be quite so loud.
Sally Spray

Sally Spray is an author of children's non-fiction books. She studied Early Years Education, then an MA in Children's Literature, and worked as a teacher before becoming an art director in children's publishing. Sally lives in the Cotswold countryside, and enjoys daily chats with her chickens, daughters and sometimes her husband, the illustrator Mark Ruffle. Her mission is to find out loads of interesting, really hard to understand stuff and pass it on to her readers as simply and concisely as possible.

She is also a freelance journalist and the co-editor of teen books blog, Chicklish.
Emer Stamp

Emer Stamp is the bestselling author of The Unbelievable Top Secret Diary of Pig and three follow-up books. She started out as a graphic designer before moving to a career in advertising, where, among her roles, she was Creative Director for the advertising agency behind the iconic John Lewis Christmas adverts. Daddy Fartypants is Emer's first children's picture book. She lives with her family in London.
Ali Standish

Ali Standish, author of the critically acclaimed The Ethan I Was Before, split her time growing up between North Carolina and several imaginary worlds. The only award she ever won in school was for messiest desk, but that didn't stop her from going on to get degrees from Pomona College, Hollins University and the University of Cambridge. She still spends most of her time in her imagination, but you might just spot her walking her two rescue dogs with her Finnish husband around her neighbourhood in North Carolina. Andy Stanton

Andy Stanton has written eight books about Mr Gum, along with further successful fiction and picture book titles. He was overall winner of the Red House Children's Book Award for You're a Bad Man, Mr Gum! and won the inaugural Roald Dahl Funny Prize for Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear. He has twice won the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Book With Pictures, and been shortlisted for a host of other awards.

Juliet Stevenson

Ranked among Great Britain's most esteemed stage actresses, Juliet Stevenson also lends her talent to film and television productions. A graduate of London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she first made waves in classical theatre in the early '80s. Her most acclaimed film role was in Truly, Madly, Deeply (1991).
