The Orchard Book of Nursery Rhymes is Faith Jaques's last and most highly-acclaimed work. Her career as an illustrator spanned over forty years and her distinctive style is widely recognised and admired. Faith Jaques illustrated well over one hundred books for children and adults. She has always been associated with the most distinguished children's authors, illustrating books by Roald Dahl, Allan Ahlberg, Philippa Pearce, Nina Bawden and Leon Garfield. She also designed several sets of commemorative stamps. Faith Jaques died in 1997.
Julia Jarman has won the Stockport Schools' Book Award twice for her brilliant picture book texts! After studying English and Drama at Manchester University, she became a teacher. Julia has been writing for over fifteen years and in that time has written ten novels and over seventy shorter books. Initially, she was encouraged to write by her three children who asked for 'real characters like us', with the girls asking for 'lots of scary bits.' Recently, she has become a grandmother, inspiring her to write her fabulous picture book texts. She has also been influenced by her three cats! Caroline Jayne Church has worked in every field of illustration, including advertising, packaging, character creation, card design and paper products. She has created characters for Safeways, Asda and Innocent. She now works from a studio in Surrey writing and illustrating children's books, many of which have won awards and been translated into over 8 languages.
Caryn Jenner was born and raised in the USA, but has lived all her adult life in the UK. The very best thing she's ever done in her life is adopting her fabulous and fascinating daughter. The next best thing is working with children as a school volunteer. She also enjoys writing and editing books for children. She lives in London with her husband, daughter and cats.
Curtis Jobling was born in Blackpool. He grew up in Warrington and describes himself as a small and freckly child (Ginger, according to his cousins). He works as a model maker and designer for HOT animation, the creative arm of HIT, on the popular children's television show 'Bob the Builder'. He has a number of his own shows in development and has also worked on Aardmans 'A Close Shave' and Tim Burtons 'Mars Attacks' as well as recently writing, designing and directing a series of interstitial animations for Nickeldoeon, 'Curious Cow'. He has two cats called Scully and Mulder (named when the x-files wasn't so popular) and a baby boy, called Andrew.
Jinny Johnson is an established and successful writer of information books for children.
Cally studied illustration at Newcastle Art College and since graduating has worked in the children's design industry. She spent 6 fun filled years as an in-house artist for Hallmark Cards before going on to become a freelance illustrator.She now has her own home studio with a lovely view of the Northumberland countryside.Inspiration for her work comes from almost anything: a pretty tea set, hill walking, tending her vegetable patch, even panda bears. (Though she's yet to meet one).
Ursula Jones is an award-winning author and actress. She has written many books for children, including The Witch's Children and the Queen, winner of a Nestle Gold Award, The Witch's Children go to School, winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, and the highly acclaimed The Princess Who Had No Kingdom. Ursula lives in London and France.
