She has been an editor and publisher of everything from picture books to encyclopedias, but mostly enjoys finding out amazing bits of information and then writing about them. She particularly likes writing about science, as the information so often turns out to be far stranger than fiction.

The videos her family still post of their BSL dinner chats continue to receive tens of thousands of hits.Ava's mum, Lilli Beese, is a BSL interpreter, television presenter and trainee psychologist. Ava's dad, Nick Beese, is a designer and former captain of Great Britain's deaf football team. Together, Nick and Lilli founded support group Deaf Parents Deaf Children. They regularly campaign on deaf issues.

Joyce Bentley was a publisher of children's non-fiction for more than 10 years having also commissioned and edited over 1,000 books. As a writer she specialises in books for young children on science and religion. Based in Twickenham, she divides her time between writing and commissioning for children's non-fiction - a job she absolutely loves

Susie Brooks

Susie Brooks is an award-winning writer and editor of children's books. Writing on a wide range of subjects from dinosaurs to geography, she also masquerades as an artist (among other things, painting children's portraits and getting messy in classroom workshops!). In 2014, her Get into Art series won the English Association Picture Book Award, British Book Design and Production Award and the overall SLA Information Book Award. She can regularly be found walking people's dogs and in her spare time, loves to travel and explore new places!
