Popcorn: Watch Out! Resources
Watch Out! is a series of four books in the Popcorn range that raises children’s awareness of the dangers in familiar places and the importance of personal safety. The books support the PSHE and Citizenship areas of the curriculum looking at safety and risk, and personal wellbeing. The books also support Geography, particularly for the unit ‘How can we make our local area safer?’ The books can be used in literacy as they feature many examples of report text, such as contents, non-chronological text, captions, index, glossary, and more.
The downloadable resources that support this series comprise teacher’s notes and a photocopiable worksheet for each title. These enable you to ensure that children have understood key concepts or ideas. Use the worksheets in a guided reading session, for individual projects, topic-based group work or for homework:
At Home worksheet: Match the beginning and end of the sentences.
Near Water worksheet: Identify things that help keep you safe when you are near water.
On the Road worksheet: Make a poster to show the Green Cross Code. Draw the pictures.
Out and About worksheet: Think about somewhere outside where you like to be and you feel safe and explain why.
