Popcorn: In the Past Resources

Free Downloadable

In the Past is series of four books in the Popcorn range that introduces children to what familiar things and places were like in the past. The books support knowledge, skills and understanding in history by helping children to identify differences between ways of life in different times throughout history. This covers curriculum history topics, such as: How are our toys and schools different from those in the past? What were homes like a long time ago? What were seaside holidays like in the past? These books can also be used in literacy as they feature many examples of report text, such as contents, chronological text, captions, index, glossary, and more.

The downloadable resources that support this series comprise teacher’s notes and a photocopiable worksheet for each title. These enable you to ensure that children have understood key concepts or ideas. Use the worksheets in a guided reading session, for individual projects, topic-based group work or for homework:

Seaside Holidays  worksheet: All these things can be found at the seaside. What are they called? Draw a line from the words to the pictures.

School  worksheet: Read the statements and cut them out or copy them to show where you think they should go on the timeline.

Toys  worksheet: Write something that is the same about the toys you like playing with today and toys that children played with in the past. Then write or draw something that is different.

Houses and Homes  worksheet: Match household equipment with different tasks.
