How can I get my dyslexic son reading?

Lorna Bradbury, Deputy Literary Editor of The Telegraph was asked: My 12-year-old son is extremely dyslexic and struggles with reading. He does want to read because he recognises how important it is, but it is hard to find books that capture his imagination, appeal to his age, and yet are not too complex for him to grasp.

We had a huge breakthrough with Cool! by Michael Morpurgo, which he loved, and we have worked our way through quite a few of his books. I love reading above all else and long to be able to inspire him to read for pleasure.

The Edge titles [from Franklin Watts] are also worth bearing in mind, as many of these are printed using a similar kind of dyslexic-friendly paper and font, and they cover a range of material – from factual books (Action Force: Special Forces by Jim Brush, Edge, £7.99) to spin-offs of the Choose Your Own Adventure stories I loved as a child (in I Hero: Dragon Slayer by Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore, Edge, £4.99, you have to find and destroy a dragon).
