Hodder Children’s Books is thrilled to announce the acquisition of a new license from BBC Worldwide to publish a range of Strictly Come Dancing titles for children. The Strictly Come Dancing brand stands out for its warmth, joy and wow factor! Our new range of Strictly Fiction, aimed at 7-9 year olds will embody and promote the values at the core of the brand.
Richard Halliwell, Strictly Come Dancing/Dancing With The Stars’ Commercial Director, commented: ‘I’m delighted that the brand, for the first time through these new titles, can engage with and encourage the show’s younger fans to follow their dreams via the magnetic draw of the Strictly spotlight. The books brilliantly balance the dance aspirations shared by many young girls with the realistic challenges often faced by newcomers to the business – but the over-riding sentiment is hard work rarely goes unrewarded.’
Hodder Publishing Director Anne McNeil agreed: ‘This is a thrilling opportunity for us. Strictly Come Dancing is the benchmark of quality entertainment: for many families it’s a way of life! The acquiring editor, Emma Layfield, quick-stepped out of her usual picture book role when she brought in this amazing acquisition – and I’m delighted that she did! We will publish it with all its glamour intact and bring strong characters and stories to this massive brand.’
Each story will feature a young girl overcoming the odds to win a glamorous moment in the spotlight: on a TV dancing show, dancing on a West End stage or in a big budget movie, etc. These books will be just as fun, glamorous and uplifting as the TV show.
Strictly has waltzed away with ratings victories over its weekend rival shows, with more and more people tuning in to see the celebrity dancers each week this season. With over 9 million viewers, these books will quick step right out of the shops!
Release dates are: two titles in August 2012, two titles in November 2012 and two titles January 2013.
Hodder Children’s Books has acquired World rights (excluding USA)
